Iceland, 4x4 Adventure
01 - 10 June 2026
Special departure exclusively for our group, with a maximum of 12 people. We will explore Iceland off the beaten tourist paths, venturing into sparsely populated areas far from civilization.
On board Land Rover Defender 110 equipped with oversized 38-inch tires, GPS, two-way radio and designed to get over particularly challenging terrain, we will tackle the Þórsmörk track at a time of year when it is inaccessible to other cars. We will have the rare opportunity to drive to Ingólfshöfði, a peninsula reachable only with our vehicles by driving in the Atlantic Ocean when the tide is low. Finally we will explore the spectacular fjords in the north-western part of the island, wonderful waterfalls, volcanoes and during the journey we will have to cross rivers, glaciers, deserts of sand and black rocks, lava fields. Our expedition will be a real "Journey to the center of the earth", 2000 kilometers where you can still breathe a primordial atmosphere in the best period of the year to observe the colonies of sea birds, Puffins, Gannets, Terns, Guillemots in full reproductive activity. Your guide during this extraordinary journey will be Piero Bosco.

In the morning, from the picturesque town of Stykkishólmur, the most important settlement on the Snæfellsnes peninsula, we will take the ferry that will bring us north to the Westfjords.
During the crossing we will pass by numerous islands and rocks and will have a good chance of observing Seals, Eider Ducks and if we are very lucky even White-Tailed Eagles. Our main objectives of the day will be the wonderful and endless red sand beach Rauðisandur and the cliffs of Látrabjarg, the westernmost point of Europe, 14 kilometers of coastline overlooking the sea that reaches 440 meters high and is home to millions of sea birds, including Puffins, Gannets, Guillemots and Razorbills. As much as 40% of the world population of the latter is concentrated on this cliff. Seals are also often present on the surrounding rocks.
We will then travel to Patreksfjörður, where we will spend the night.
04 June
We will continue our exploration of the remote fjords of the northwest through the roads and secondary tracks that will take us from Patreksfjörður, through imposing mountains and majestic fjords, to the charming old town of Ísafjörður, an important whaling port in the 18th century. The whole area offers good opportunities to observe the Polar Fox. We will pass through the small and remote villages of Tálknafjörður, Bíldudalur and Þingeyri, tiny settlements lost between snow-capped peaks and green valleys. We will continue towards the fjord of Arnarfjörður where we will find Dynjandi, one of the most spectacular waterfalls in Iceland. A short hike will allow us to appreciate it in all its splendor. We will continue to Hrafnseyri, where Jón Sigurðsson, one of the greatest heroes of Icelandic independence, was born. Nearby is Skrúður, a botanical garden with many types of shrubs and trees and the oldest in Iceland. Then we will continue to Ísafjörður nestled in the spectacular Skutulsfjörður fjord.
05 June
From Ísafjörður, we continue eastwards until we reach Hólmavík, following a road that winds through steep fjords and towering mountains. Once there, we can explore the wild and rugged coastal region of Strandir, characterized by wide fjords, until the end of the road, where the great tundra of Hornstrandir begin. We finally return to Hólmavík, the fishing village that is the capital of ancient witchcraft and mysticism and home to a museum dedicated to the history of witchcraft in Iceland through the centuries.

Having reached the northernmost point of our voyage, today we will begin the return journey southwards, thus saying goodbye to the beautiful Westfjords. We will leave early as a long drive awaits us. We will make a stop at the Grábrók crater in Borgarfjörður which offers an excellent panoramic point of the lava field that surrounds it. We will then visit the famous þingvellir National Park, the place where the first parliament was established and where you can observe the cracks created by the separation of the North American and European plates. We will then move to the area called Geysir where the majestic geyser Strokkur emits a jet up to 35 meters high every 10 minutes and then a little further north the wonderful Gullfoss waterfall, 32 meters high. In fact, with the help of low tide and our 4×4 cars, we will tackle a coastal lagoon overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, a real “navigation with cars”. We will reach Cape Ingólfshöfði. This seabird paradise is home to one of the largest concentrations of Greater Skua in Iceland, Fulmars, Terns and a large colony of Puffins. More generally along the entire southern coast we will have the opportunity to encounter sea birds (Puffins, Gannets, Gulls, Guillemots) We will then continue eastwards to the spectacular glacier lagoon of Jökulsárlón, where we can enjoy an unforgettable boat ride among the icebergs and Seals.
