DEFINITION OF ANTARCTIC

The word derives from the Greek ανταρκτικός or “opposite to the Arctic”. The Antarctic Convergence offers a clear boundary between the cold southern polar waters and the warmer northern subtropical waters. This boundary is an excellent definition of the Antarctic.
